Subscription Box Review | The Joy Book Club

I love books.  I love them.  Always have, and always will.  So when Julie from The Joy Book Club offered to send me the April Joy Book Club subscription box, how could I refuse?  Let’s see what this subscription box book club is all about…

What is it?
The Joy Book Club is a subscription box book club.  The concept is all about spreading BookJoy by encouraging members to do three things: ‘Read Differently’, ‘Share The BookJoy’ and ‘Read Books, Do Good’.  Each month subscribers receive a box containing a great lesser-known book, as well as a few other gifts that are themed around that book (usually includes something yummy, something scented, something cool to display/use and a funky playlist to listen to whilst you enjoy what you’re reading).  The idea is that you enjoy these little extras whilst reading the book, to create a new kind of reading experience.  Cool, huh?

£1 from each box sold is donated to a different book-related charity each month.  So you’re doing good too!

How does it work?
On the first of every month, subscriptions open. Sign up closes on the 15th of the month, and boxes are sent out towards the end of the month.  You can sign up for a monthly subscription, or purchase one-off boxes as a gift/taster.

What’s in the box?
This months theme is a special celebratory Shakespeare edition!  Included this month are:

The Poems and Sonnets of William Shakespeare book
Rose scented candles and incense
Red Lips sweeties (yummy!)
Shakespeare playlist
Sonnet V poster
The Joy Book Club’s Guide to Shakespearean insults (very funny…!)

You also get a lovely letter explaining why the book was chosen, which is a really lovely touch.

Thoughts?
The theme has been really well thought out and this box is a great introduction to Shakespeare in a really fun way.  Many people perhaps have only experienced Shakespeare in the dusty classrooms of their youth, so it’s a treat to rediscover him again.

The Joy Book Club social media channels are open and encourage discussions about that months book; a great way of meeting other book lovers!

I love the ethos behind the Joy Book Club; encouraging reading and discussion, as well as doing good by donating to a book-related charity.  I also love that you get something that bit different each month; I have a hard time choosing books and have been guilty of just picking up a best-seller and going with that.  The Joy Book Club is a great way of expanding your horizons and discovering authors that you might not normally come across.  It’s so lovely to have found a subscription box book club!

How much does it cost?
£15.99 per month incl. delivery.  No commitment, and you can cancel at any time.  One-off boxes are also priced at £15.99 each.
